The red field with its chamfered top corners frames a raised blue mosque silhouette, and the white letter A and numeral 5 sit on top as the highest layer of relief, so every edge throws its own shadow on the wall. The same patch carried from North Africa and Italy to today's U.S. Army North, scaled up from sleeve size to 4 to 12 inches tall.

Each color is its own raised layer, so the red, blue, and white stay crisp and the borders stay sharp from across a room.
