MagIQtouch RF controller stuck on splash screen after battery replacement

MagIQtouch RF controller stuck on splash screen after battery replacement

Issue

MagIQtouch RF (wireless) wall controller sits on the white "MAGIQTOUCH CONTROLLER" splash screen and will not progress to the home screen after the AA batteries were replaced.

Related symptoms reported by users:

  • Display backlight and logo appear normal, so the controller looks alive
  • Controller does not operate the appliance (evaporative cooler / gas heater)
  • Screen appears frozen or unresponsive to touch
  • Behaviour started immediately after a battery change, not after a power outage or storm

Common user phrasings: "it's just stuck", "screen won't move past the logo", "changed the batteries and now nothing works", "controller frozen on startup".

Environment

  • Seeley International MagIQtouch RF (wireless) wall controller
  • 4 x AA battery powered controller
  • Any paired Seeley appliance (Braemar, Breezair, Coolair, Convair)
  • Does not apply to hard-wired MagIQtouch controllers powered over the appliance comms cable

Resolution

  1. Remove all four AA batteries from the controller.
  2. Hold the controller upright, face toward you, with fingers clear of the HOME button on the right-hand edge.
  3. Insert the batteries one at a time, confirming correct polarity for each.
  4. Do not place the controller face-down or on its edge at any point during the swap.
  5. Refit the battery cover while keeping the side button clear.

The controller exits Diagnostic Mode automatically on a clean power-up and returns to normal operation.

Pairing is preserved. Re-pairing is not required and no service call is needed for this fault.

Also verify

  • Batteries are fresh alkaline AA cells. Rechargeable NiMH cells sit at 1.2 V nominal versus 1.5 V and can produce similar incomplete-boot behaviour.
  • All four cells are the same brand and age. Mixing partly used cells causes intermittent recurrence.

Cause

The controller was unintentionally placed into Diagnostic Mode.

The HOME button sits on the right-hand edge of the controller. When users remove the battery cover, they commonly rest the controller face-down or on its edge, which depresses the HOME button. If the HOME button is held at the exact moment power is applied, the firmware boots into Diagnostic Mode. In this state the display powers up but the controller will not command the appliance.

This is a firmware behaviour, not a hardware fault. Seeley has acknowledged it and indicated a future software update is intended to address it.

Do NOT do this

Do not press the pinhole reset button on the back of the controller to clear this fault.

That button initiates a MagIQtouch system configuration reset, which Seeley restricts to qualified installers, service technicians, and approved service agents. Running it incorrectly, or allowing the controller to boot past the white screen mid-procedure, can leave the system in a state requiring full recommissioning. It also does not clear appliance fault codes, so it would not resolve this issue even if performed correctly.
